About Cookie Tracking¶
This page explains how Hello Retail uses cookies for tracking and personalization.
Cookie tracking is a standard mechanism for measuring behavior and delivering personalized experiences while respecting data protection requirements.
Types of cookies¶
Cookie tracking works in different ways, and there are several types of cookies:
- First-party cookie - set by your domain (your e-commerce site) on the visitor’s browser.
- Third-party cookie - set by Hello Retail’s domain to recognize the same browser when a user browses your shop.
Cookies are also commonly categorized as session cookies, persistent cookies, or secure cookies.
A cookie is a small text value (letters and numbers) used to identify a browser.
Lifetime¶
Cookies have an expiration date. Unless renewed, they expire in the browser when that date is reached.
The lifetime is determined by the issuer of the cookie. For Hello Retail, we set a 1-year expiration on our tracking cookie. This supports long-term recognition to deliver consistent personalization.
Some browsers may enforce shorter lifetimes through tracking prevention features.
Users can opt out of tracking at any time by removing cookies, browsing in a private/incognito session, or declining cookies via your consent banner (as required in the EU). If you operate outside the EU, follow local requirements for cookie notices and consent.
You can read more about how to have the user opt-out of the tracking without removing the Hello Retail service entirely.
Note
If a user opts out of tracking, Hello Retail cannot personalize recommendations or content for that browser.
Hello Retail monitors regulatory changes and collaborates with local trade and industry associations. However, you as the e-commerce owner are responsible for how you implement consent, handle cookies, and provide information on your website.
