Different Types of Product Recommendations¶
This guide outlines the different Hello Retail product recommendation types and where to use them.
It also provides practical strategies for placing recommendations across your webshop to support common use cases.
Front page¶
On the front page, use dynamic content by adding two recommendation boxes:
- popular products across the site
- recently viewed products for the current visitor
Product pages¶
On product pages, add two recommendation boxes:
- related products to the product being viewed
- alternative or popular products within the same category
Category pages¶
On category pages, show top products from the active category.
Basket/Cart page¶
On the basket or cart page, use recommendations to drive add-on purchases. Display either:
- products related to items already in the basket
- recently viewed products for the current visitor, optionally filtered by price to help reach free shipping thresholds
404 page¶
On the 404 page, use product recommendations to redirect the visitor quickly. Show the most popular products across the site.
The "no search results found" page¶
Apply the same strategy as the 404 page. When a search returns no results, show the most popular products across the site.
Landing pages¶
For blog posts and marketing landing pages, embed product recommendations. For example:
- most popular products
- related products when the content focuses on a specific product
Upselling steps¶
For upselling, consider these tactics:
- redirect the visitor to a dedicated upsell page after a product is added to the basket
- trigger a pop-up after add to basket and show products related to the added item
- place upsell recommendations on the product page and reveal them on add to basket click
