Setup your Search Page in Magento 2

In this guide, you can read and learn about how to setup your search in Magento 2 by creating a blank page, looking into the page layout and header.

Lastly, on how to set up the search configurations in the Hello Retail backend.


Create a Blank Page for Magento 2

The following section is only relevant for setups for a full search.

The following steps are on how to install your search results on a blank page for Magento 2:

  1. Start by logging into your Magento admin account. On the dashboard view of the Admin Panel, navigate to the left-hand side menu. Under the Page Information section, click on Content.
  2. Next from Content, go to > Elements > Pages.
  3. Click on the Add New Page button.

 

Under the Page Information section:

  • Fill out the Page Title - in this case “Search Results”.

  • Fill out the URL Key to be “search-results”.

  • Under the Store View list - choose the store view for which store the search results should be displayed on.

  • Status: Enabled - leave this on Enabled

    4. Copy and paste the URL Key as this will be needed for steps under here.

    5. Lastly, click on Save and Continue Edit.

 


Choose the Page Layout

  1. On the dashboard view of the Admin Panel, navigate to the left-hand side menu. Under the Page Information section, click on Design.
  2. From the Page Layout field, choose the page layout “1 Column” from the drop-down menu.


     
  3. Scroll down to customize the design of the page.
    On the Custom Design page, select the Theme and Layout you use for your website.

 

 

 

Enter a Heading for the Content (e.g Search Results)

  1. On the dashboard view of the Admin Panel, navigate to the left-hand side menu. Under the Page Information section, click on Design.
  2. From the Page Layout field, choose the page layout “1 Column” from the drop-down menu.

    On the left panel, click the Content tab.

    In the Content Heading field, enter the main heading at the top of the page, we suggest this to be Search Results.

     

  3. Now click on Save and Continue Edit.

The Magento 2 search setup has now been finalized. The last step would be to set it up on the Hello Retail backend side.


Enabling the Search Page in the Hello Retail Backend

  1. Start by logging into your Hello Retail account. On the dashboard view, navigate to the left-hand side menu. Under the On-Site section, click on Search to unfold the drop-down menu.
  2. Next, from the drop-down menu, click on Overview.
  3. From the Overview page, click on the Create New button.


     
  4. After clicking on the Create New button, a fold down view will show where you can choose your desired option of search - overlay, instant & full search.
  5. In the URL for your full search page field, you have to enter or paste the URL Key from these steps here.
  6. When you have finalized your design of choice for the search in the Hello Retail backend, then remember to save and activate it.

    This will make the search configurations go into state of live instead of draft. This will then be shown on the page created in Magento 2.
